People born in January receive fewer birthday presents than those born in other months, losing out on an estimated £1,120.11 in gifts over their lifetime, according to research by money.co.uk.

One in 10 individuals admit to spending 34% less (£13.82) on January birthdays compared to other months.

In the UK, the average adult is projected to spend £392 on birthday gifts in 2020, totaling nearly £26 billion for the UK.

The highest spending is on partners (£91), followed by children (£72) and parents (£45).

The study also reveals a preference for mothers, with individuals spending 16% more (£6.78) on gifts for their mothers than for their fathers.

Salman Haqqi, a personal finance expert at money.co.uk, suggests that the financial aftermath of Christmas prompts many to tighten their budgets in January, impacting birthday gift spending.

He emphasizes the need for individuals to plan and budget not only for birthdays but also for other celebrations like weddings, christenings, and anniversaries.

can bring national unity.

The Prime Minister said that his position as such will prevent him from going to the Opposition with a name that does not have these credentials.

He added how he wants to see the Opposition making similar proposals for candidates, saying that Nationalist Leader Bernard Grech put forth proposals which his own parliamentary group rejected outright.

He concluded by saying that this choice for a new president could help make those skeptical of politics understand that the parties are not fully entrenched in political back-and-forth.

Bed Installation Outside Castille Remembers Femicide Victims

Following the murder of Sliema resident Sandra Ramirez, activist group ‘Young Progressive Beings’ took to Castille to set up an installation commemorating all those lost to femicide.

The group set up a bed symbolising ‘not just where Sandra Ramirez was murdered, but the intimate spaces where many of these crimes have taken place, and the “trusted” people who were the perpetrators.’

‘We call on the government of Malta to prioritise the prevention of intimate partner violence and domestic violence, and bring the men who killed them to justice.’

The installation had the names of other victims of femicide written down, including Bernice Cilia, Rita Ellul and Paulina Dembska. The latter, Dembska’s, murder led to the crime of femicide being included in Maltese law.
