Malta’s Climate Action Authority, described as the first of its kind in Europe, is currently working on a number of projects, including an initiative to install solar panels on public buildings. This was outlined by Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness, Miriam Dalli, during a visit to the Authority’s offices. She stated that the Authority’s establishment is already contributing to progress in the sector and referred to a recent Eurobarometer survey indicating increasing public awareness of climate change.

According to the Minister, the Authority’s role involves collaboration with Ministries and other government entities, with several projects already underway. It is also engaging with stakeholders and developing national and international partnerships related to climate action.

The solar panel initiative began through an agreement with the Ministry for Education, involving the installation of photovoltaic systems in ten schools. Further discussions with additional entities are ongoing.

The Authority has also drafted a strategic plan based on eleven objectives intended to support policy development and the implementation of climate-related projects. The plan includes measures to encourage research, promote innovation, and support climate data collection and reporting.
