The one shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine has begun distribution across EU member states yesterday. The EU bloc is expected to receive 55 million doses of the vaccine by June. Malta will be receiving consignments of the vaccine and revised its date of herd immunity from August to June of this year due to the effective vaccine rollout.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) granted conditional marketing authorisation for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to be distributed with people aged 18 and over. This makes the Johnson & Johnson the fourth vaccine granted approval by the bloc and the only one shot vaccine so far. As of yesterday 12th April, Malta has administered 244,718 vaccines, of which 71,481 are second doses.
