The Renault Malta Showroom recently hosted a spectacular display celebrating over 30 years of the Renault Clio. This event showcased ten iconic Clio versions, including the latest full hybrid model, under the campaign “Renault Clio – Same Love, New Energy.”

The Clio, first introduced in 1990, has evolved through five generations, becoming Renault’s most successful model and the best-selling French car of all time, with over 15 million units sold globally.

This milestone event brought together vintage Clio models and their proud owners, capturing the essence of the Clio’s journey from its humble beginnings to its current status as an advanced, hybrid-powered vehicle.

A Journey Through Time

Clio I: Launched in 1990 as a versatile small car, the first-generation Clio immediately became a favorite, winning European Car of the Year in 1991. Its blend of practicality, quality, and equipment set a new standard in the small car market.

Clio II: Debuted in 1998, this model brought a curvier design and advanced safety features, such as ABS and airbags, making it a pioneer in the supermini segment.

Clio III: Unveiled in 2005, this generation introduced premium features like hands-free keycards and a more refined interior. It also earned a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

Clio IV: Launched in 2012, it featured a design inspired by the DeZir concept car and brought new technologies like the R-LINK media system. The Clio IV’s customization options were a hit among buyers.

Clio V: The latest generation, introduced in 2019, marks the most advanced Clio yet. With its hybrid E-TECH powertrain, it offers up to 80% electric driving in the city, combining performance with efficiency.

The fresh graduates paid a visit to the Ministry of Health during their traditional end-of-course buscade, an annual event held by that year’s graduating class to celebrate the end of a University course.

Minister Abela shared his enthusiasm for the occasion, posting photos of the cheerful group and expressing his pride in their accomplishments.

“A sweet moment which, without a doubt, left a smile for the rest of the day,” he wrote. This message comes before these newly-graduated students head into the world of health, some of which potentially interacting with the minister in their career’s distant future.

In addition to the already-stacked line-up of this year’s Mediterrane Film Festival, Danish actress Connie Nielsen, most recognised from her roles in ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Wonder Woman’ will be coming to the island for the festival’s second edition.

Nielsen is set to reprise her iconic role as Lucilla in the highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. Scheduled for release in 2024, the sequel promises to revisit the grandeur and political intrigue that captivated audiences in the original 2000 film.

Launching her career in European cinema before making a successful transition to Hollywood in the late ’90s, she rose to international fame with her powerful performance in Gladiator. She portrayed Lucilla, the astute and resilient sister of Emperor Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix. Her nuanced portrayal won her widespread acclaim and cemented her status as a versatile and compelling actress.

Beyond her memorable role in Gladiator, Nielsen has made significant contributions to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), where she stars as Queen Hippolyta, the formidable mother of Wonder Woman. She first donned the Amazonian armour in Wonder Woman (2017) and continued to inspire audiences in Wonder Woman 1984 (2020).

Connie Nielsen will participate in a special Q&A session on June 24th at Forti St. Elmo, following a screening of the original Gladiator.
