Caritas Malta is inviting individuals who are alone or lack the means to celebrate Christmas with dignity to join a communal Christmas lunch at the Archbishop’s Curia in Floriana.

This event represents a tangible act of love and an inclusive initiative by the Church.

Episcopal Vicar for Diaconia, Fr. Martin Micallef, highlighted the importance of this annual meal, organized by Caritas Malta since 2015. He noted, “Christmas teaches us the language of love, exemplified in this gesture, where Archbishop Charles Scicluna offers the venue to live out the commandment of love.”

Across Malta, various parishes are hosting similar meals for those facing challenges. Meanwhile, Caritas’ Marta’s Kitchen will distribute around 400 hot meals to those in need, supported by 125 volunteers.

The Director of Caritas Malta, Anthony Gatt, shared stories of joy from past attendees, including one person who remarked, “A piece of bread with company is better than turkey alone.” Last year, attendees ranged from 2 to 100 years old.

The Alfred Mizzi Foundation is preparing the meal, with desserts crafted by chefs from the President’s Kitchen. Sustainability is also a focus, with reusable tableware provided. Entertainment will include music by X-Tend.

Anyone experiencing loneliness or financial difficulties can join by contacting Caritas Malta at 79555915, via email at [email protected], or through their Facebook page.

The Labour Migration Policy will incorporate recommendations from youth consultation, with a final document expected to be released for public feedback. This was announced during a meeting between the University Students’ Council (KSU) and Prime Minister Robert Abela, who highlighted the significance of involving young people in national decision-making processes.

These recommendations stemmed from the Youth Advisory Forum, a platform that convenes monthly to discuss key topics. During the meeting, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of maintaining regular dialogue with KSU and other youth organizations. He noted that the Labour Migration Policy aims to address workforce demands while prioritizing workers’ rights and limiting foreign employment to sectors with specific needs.

The Prime Minister also referenced Malta Vision 2050, explaining that it reflects youth aspirations in areas such as education and environmental sustainability. He emphasized the need for collaboration to achieve strategic goals by 2035.

Mental health was another topic discussed, with a focus on enhancing community-based services, as outlined in the recent national budget. The Prime Minister concluded by encouraging further youth participation in shaping the country’s future, expressing confidence in their role as catalysts for progress and innovation.

Last Sunday, Swieqi United beat Birkirkara, securing their maiden Super Cup victory.

This marks Swieqi’s second major honour after previously winning their 2023 domestic cup.

From the onset of the game, Birkirkara attempted to exploit spaces in the defensive setup of Swieqi, however the Owls took the lead from the opening stages of the match by turning their counter-attacking strategy to account.

Despite Birkirkara’s Charlene Zammit being named Assikura Women’s Super Cup Best Player, Zammit will have to skip next Friday’s crucial league game against Hibernians after being suspended for dangerous play during last Sunday’s match.
