Calls for Boris Johnson’s resignation after UK exceeds 100,000 deaths

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has faced national backlash following his ‘apology’ with regards to the UK surpassing 100,000 COVID-19 deaths.

In a press conference, Johnson stated that he was “deeply sorry” for the current situation and took “full responsibility for everything the government has done”, welcoming a wave of calls for his resignation.

The UK has registered more than 3.67 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and is the first European country to surpass 100,000 COVID-related deaths.

80,000 more Moderna vaccines ordered, PM Robert Abela announces

Malta will acquire 80,000 additional doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to further Malta’s attempt to ramp up the inoculation process over the coming months.

Prime Minister Robert Abela announced this in Parliament on Tuesday evening, reporting the added €2 million spend on Moderna vaccines while also announcing the arrival of 14,000 Pfizer vaccines.

The announcement of these vaccines comes amid the EU’s pending approval of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

21-year-old seriously injured after falling from Imdina bastions

A 21-year-old from Rabat is in critical condition after falling from the Mdina bastions on Tuesday evening.

It is reported that Police were called onto the scene in Triq l-Għarreqin in Rabat due to an injured person screaming for help, where they found the man in a field.

Members of Civil Protection assisted the case with a medical team immediately taking the victim to Mater Dei hospital were he was certified to sustain serious injuries.

Gozo priest pleads not guilty for rape and child abuse

Joseph Sultana, an 84-year-old priest from Xagħra plead not guilty at Gozitan court this morning after being accused of rape and child abuse on an altar boy several years back.

Sultana served in Xagħra parishes as well as being our shores and is being accused of sexual abuse on a minor.

Police have stated that Sultana and Għasri parish priest Joseph Cini are believed of guilt in sexual abuse cases and are to be arraigned separately with Magistrate Monica Vella leading proceedings.
