Building Near Construction Site Collapses In Victoria, Gozo

A building partially collapsed in Victoria, Gozo, on Saturday evening after heavy rainfall struck the Maltese Islands earlier in the day. Fortunately, no injuries or missing persons were reported.
The incident occurred shortly before 6pm in Triq Pawlu Portelli, when the foundations of a residence gave way, causing part of the structure to collapse into an adjoining construction site that had already been excavated for development.
Emergency teams, including the Civil Protection Department and police officers, were quickly dispatched to the scene.
Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution while safety inspections were carried out on surrounding buildings.
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) have launched an investigation into the collapse.
Authorities have also ordered all work on the site to be suspended until further notice to ensure safety and determine the cause of the incident.
This marks the second reported building collapse in Malta this year, following a similar case in Paceville on June 11.
