During a consultation meeting at the Auberge de Castille with representatives of the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin – Voice of the Workers, Prime Minister Robert Abela emphasised that the upcoming 2026 Budget will continue to strengthen the position of workers across Malta.

Abela stated that a strong economy enables the government to keep improving workers’ conditions, remarking, “A strong workforce means a strong country.”

He highlighted government measures designed to support employees, including the tax cuts introduced earlier this year. Under these new measures, every worker now benefits from having at least the first €1,000 of their earnings exempt from tax.

The Prime Minister also commended the positive industrial relations between the government and the UĦM, noting that this collaboration has resulted in several collective agreements aimed at improving working conditions and securing better rights for employees.

Abela further referred to the Labour Migration Policy, describing it as a balanced approach that also protects workers’ interests, introduced at a time when it was most needed.

Also present for the meeting were Ministers Michael Falzon, Silvio Schembri, Byron Camilleri, Clyde Caruana, and Jo Etienne Abela; Parliamentary Secretaries Andy Ellul and Malcolm Paul Agius Galea; MPs Deo Debattista and Katya De Giovanni; and Colonel Mark Mallia, Head of the Office of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
