Brillanti semifinalists recreate cinematic scenes

For this semifinal round of Brillanti Dance, we saw competitors take on various movie soundtracks and recreate scenes, themes or their personal relationship to the film which brought us the track.

Some went the entertaining route, bringing us everything from the glistening world of Mamma Mia (Elisa) to the roughness of 8 Mile (Chloe and Miguel) and the hectic hustle and bustle of Wolf of WallStreet (Juliana and Mishelle).

Others played on movie intensity and we got to see a recreation of Joker’s bathroom scene (Nicole), a voyage to the dunes of Arrakis (Ben) or the mind-boggling realms of Inception (Cheryl).

And there was not shortage of bedazzlement either as the judges were transported to the worlds of Fame (Rafael), Cabaret (Kim) and Moulin Rogue (Julia).

And last but not least, some semifinalists gave us their personal relationship to the track, with Bond’s ‘No Time to Die’ (Federica) and an Italian classic ‘Cinema Paradiso’ (Rosario).

And as with every week, the elimination saw Kim Ellul going home after a dance-off against Julia Vella Rosso, with the latter having to battle it out for the second time at the bottom two.

“Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi – This emotional ballad was released in 2018 as part of Capaldi’s debut album “Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.” The song’s powerful lyrics and Capaldi’s soulful voice helped it to become a hit across the world, and it quickly became one of the most-streamed songs on Spotify. Malta’s football stars honoured at Malta FA Awards

On Friday evening, the best and brightest in local football were awarded a token of accomplishment from Malta’s governing body of football.

Ħamrun Spartans’ Matthew Guillaumier and Swieqi United’s Jade Flask were named MFA Footballers of the year after two spectacular seasons in their own leagues.

Following a convincing Premier League victory, Ħamrun Spartans coach Branko Nisevic also took home Coach of the Year. Other awards included Valletta’s Andrea Zammit taking home Young Player of the Year, Balzan FC’s Angel Torres winning Foreign Player of the Year and Sliema Wanderers’ Lydon Micallef winning Challenge League Best Player.

Mġarr United’s Christian Ebisindor won Amateur League Best Player while Mosta’s Nathan Agius won Youths best player and Birkirkara’s Sara Saliba won Women’s Youths Best Player. Local legends Andrew Cohen and Tessie Agius were inducted into the Malta FA’s Hall of Fame, St. Andrews FC took home the Fair Play Award while Joseph Micallef and Paul Spiteri were presented with the President’s Award.

Motorcycle driver & passenger die after incident in Mosta

Two Pakistani men aged 41 and 33, both living in St. Paul’s Bay, lost their life after an incident in Triq ta’ Żejfa, Mosta on Saturday morning.

The Malta Police Force was informed of the incident at around 6am, with preliminary investigations revealing that a collision occurred between the victims’ Yamaha Crypton motorcycle and a Smart Fortwo driven by a 41-year-old Mellieha resident.

Members of the Civil Protection Department, together with a medical team from Mater Dei were called on site, but the 33-year-old Pakistani man was certified dead on site.

The other two were taken to Mater Dei for the necessary treatment, with the 41-year-old Pakistani dying due to injuries sustained from the incident. The condition of the other individual is still pending.

Magistrate Dr Leonard Caruana has been informed of the case, opening an inquiry, whilst police investigations are currently under way.
