Blue Light Member Urges Action After Near-Tragic Drunk Driving Incident

Blue Light member Michael Spiteri has warned of the dangers posed by reckless drivers following a near-tragic incident earlier today.

“Our first callout this morning could have ended in tragedy,” Spiteri said. “At that time of day, the risk was enormous buses full of people heading to work, joggers along the seafront, and traffic all around.”

Reports suggest the driver involved was allegedly four times over the legal alcohol limit. If confirmed, this would mark at least the third serious incident in recent days linked to drunk driving.

Spiteri added, “This is unacceptable, Irresponsible drivers are putting innocent lives at risk. Some clearly refuse to learn, so the only way forward is random and frequent checks, harsh penalties, and highly visible enforcement to deter this reckless behaviour.”

He called on authorities to take stronger action to reduce preventable injuries and deaths on Malta’s roads.
