Best summer ever! Malta’s BIGGEST club night G7 Fridays is closing this week

If it’s events we’re talking about, it’s easy to say that this summer was one for the books for Malta’s leading events brand G7 Events.

Beyond absolutely massive festivals like Isle of MTV Malta Music Week & World Club Dome Island Edition, their iconic G7 Fridays residency at Gianpula Main Room G7 definitely made it’s mark in Malta’s clubbing culture… and it’s coming to an end for this summer.

Summer 2022’s final farewell will coincide with G7 Fridays’ massive closing night, which is pinned for Friday 2nd September! With a line-up of rising stars and local favourites including Debrii, Miggy, Koroma, D-Rey, Cleaven, Sar, Kieren, Gabii and Nagem, as well as JD Patrick and Supre on MC duty, you know we’re in for a big one.

Sunken Hephaestus shipwreck to draw in divers and tourists to Maltese waters

The 60m tanker known as the Hephaestus which ran aground on the Qawra coast over three years ago was pulled back into the sea off Gozo to serve as a diving attraction.

The ship had run aground on the feast of St Paul’s Shipwreck on February 10th 2018 and was stranded on the rocks for six months before being patched up and towed to the Grand Harbour.

The ship was found too costly to repair, but was then cleaned in preparation for the scuttling off Xatt l-Aħmar. The operation to sink the 855-tonne vessel was a delicate operation, with many watching the scene.

The operation was handled by Malta Tourism Authority in collaboration with the Professional Diving School and the Gozo Ministry.

Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri and Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo both commented on the ship’s scuttling.

Bartolo said that this provides a new opportunity for divers to enjoy a brand new attraction whilst also drawing in foreign visitors to the site. Camilleri highlighted how this site will be added with the already established 55 sites in Gozo to strengthen the industry.

20 minutes extra injury time during Spartans vs Hibernians first match

20 minutes were added to yesterday’s football match between Hibernians FC and Hamrun Spartans following a serious injury which occurred on the pitch.

The play was halted on 55 minutes when Spartans’ Bonello collided with Hibernians’ Yunusa Muritala, with both players requiring treatment for several minutes. The latter was stretchered off and substituted due to more serious injuries, with an ambulance arriving on site.

Hamrun Spartans released a statement the following day, wishing the opposing team’s player a speedy recovery, saying that ‘the health of every individual is a priority beyond sports rivalries.’

Earlier this year, a Brentford vs Wolves football match also saw around 19 minutes of stoppage time added aftera play had to be suspended.

A 2013 match between Arsenal and West Ham United was thought to have once held the record for stoppage time at the end of a game, as the clock ticked beyond 102 minutes. However, a Watford and Norwich match beat the record a floodlight record saw the clock reaching 105 minutes.

Individuals living illegally in Hamrun removed from apartments; some renting out to third parties

Earlier today, a significant police present was noticed in Hamrun’s Qormi Road as officials within the Malta Police Force together with members of the Rapid Intervention Unit conducted a delicate operation.

The court-mandated operation was also assisted by the Housing Authority, with around 8 individuals being removed from the premises, some of which reportedly having a criminal profile. It was also discovered that a governmental housing residence was also being rented to third parties.

TVMNEWS.mt reported that the individuals were living illegally in the apartments, with some even having a different address on their ID card. The road was closed off as a lifter began to extract large black bags and furniture from the apartment building.

Following a string of brawls and incidents in the central village, Hamrun mayor Christian Sammut called for an increase of police presence in the area. Sammut has also been in talks with the president of the Syrian Solidarity NGO in order to collaborate and improve the situation in Hamrun.
