Karl Gouder, a former Nationalist Party MP and Chief Operating Officer at the party’s headquarters, passed away last week at the age of 45. This came just days after he expressed his intention to run for the position of PN general secretary.

Lorenzo Vella, who was 43, was previously a Labour Party activist and tragically died in August while serving as Malta’s head of EU representation.

Grech emphasised the importance of honouring individuals like Gouder and Vella, who, despite their different political paths, dedicated their lives to serving the country and its people.

The Gieħ ir-Repubblika is Malta’s highest national award, presented in several categories, with recipients announced annually on Republic Day.

Sep 16 2024 Share

Damiano David, frontman of the global sensation Måneskin, a band that has soared up the world charts and boasts over 24 million monthly listeners on Spotify, is now gearing up for a new solo venture.

A video titled ‘Everywhere’ has recently been uploaded on Instagram, which ends with the date September 27.

Following the solo debut of Victoria, in collaboration with Anitta, Damiano is seen to be distancing himself from the band. The absence of references to the other band members has also been brought to the fans’ attention.  The modification of Damiano’s  instagram biography has also been noted, as it has been changed to the date “September 27”, removing any mention of Måneskin.

Partit Nazzjonalista To Go Ahead With Independence Events

Sep 16 2024 Share

Karl Gouder’s family expressed their wish for the Partit Nazzjonalista to proceed with the planned events for the 60th anniversary of Independence, which will also serve to honor Karl’s memory.

During a press conference this morning, PN General Secretary Michael Piccinino revealed that while the party initially considered canceling the events following Karl’s passing, his family urged them to continue with the commemorations, especially since Karl had been actively involved in organizing the celebrations.

Piccinino added that it would have certainly been Karl’s desire for the work to carry on. This year’s PN Independence activities, themed ‘il quddiem (Going Forward), will reflect that vision.

Partit Nazzjonalista’s Executive Secretary, Stefan Caruana, announced that the activities will kick off on Wednesday, 18th September, with a discussion at Pjazza Tritoni, starting at 7:30 pm.

After the discussion, an evening event will be held to honor Karl Gouder’s memory, featuring performances by several local singers.

A children’s zone and a cycling activity will also be organized, reflecting Karl’s passion for sports and his dedication to promoting such spaces.

On Thursday, 19th September, at Pjazza Tritoni, Times of Malta journalist Mark Laurence Zammit will interview PN Leader Bernard Grech. This will be followed by a variety show on the main stage.

Progress Being Made On Open Space Project In Ħaż-Żebbuġ

Sep 16 2024 Share

Progress is being made on the open space project at Ħaż-Żebbuġ’s Independence Garden, with work also underway on the De Rohan Arch, a significant local landmark.

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia, highlighted the government’s commitment to increasing open spaces in communities, as demonstrated by the ongoing transformation of the previously abandoned Independence Garden.

The project will create areas for community activities, including a picnic area, basketball court, and a reservoir for irrigation. Modern lighting, CCTV for safety, and photovoltaic panels will also be installed, while existing trees will be preserved and new ones planted.

Accessibility improvements include the addition of a pelican crossing and maintenance of on-site parking. Farrugia also visited the restoration work on the De Rohan Arch, funded through an agreement with 54 local councils.

Ħaż-Żebbuġ Mayor Steve Zammit Lupi praised the projects, noting their positive impact on both the appearance of the locality and the quality of life for its residents.
