Animal Liberation Malta activists blocked the Mdina Bridge in a protest aimed at raising awareness at the need to ban karozzini.

During the protest activists chanted “Din Mohqrija – Mhux tradizzjoni” and “It’s not entertainment – it’s slavery” just meters away from the Karozzini venda. 

They said that Karozzini today only serve as a tourist attraction. Animal Liberation Malta stated that from a tourism standpoint there is a global move against horse drawn carriages with more and more cities around the world taking the step to banning this cruel practice. The list includes Montreal (Canada), Barcelona, Prague, Melbourne, Chicago, Salt Lake City and Palma de Mallorca.

Animal Liberation Malta has been advocating to the transition to electric would be an ideal solution for Malta. An activist from Animal Liberation Malta said during the event that “we are proposing solutions that are sustainable and at the same time animal friendly. 

We recommend that Transport Malta should issue a special grant for cabby drivers for them to go electric. Apart from the transition to electrification, we also propose that no new licences for cabby drivers should be issued. Furthermore, a grandfather clause should be triggered whereby existing horses will be allowed to continue working, yet upon retiring the cabby owner cannot replace the horse with a new horse but rather go to an electric option.”

3 Podium Finishes For Maltese Crossfit Teams At Wodcelona

Three Maltese CrossFit teams managed to end up on the podium a most prestigious CrossFit competitions. 

First up was F15 Figolli, made up of three athletes from Crossfit F15, who finished in second place out of a whopping 30 teams in the Intermediate Teams Male Category. The team was comprised of Luke Dimech, Mario Borg and Nico Sciberras. 

The second team, called ‘Pudini’, was comprised of athletes from Crossfit 356 and CrossFit F15, and they finished in 3rd place out of 30 teams in the Rx Teams Female. The team was comprised of Luana Vella, Jenny Falzon and Kim Gregory. 

Last but not least was team ‘One and two half men’, comprised of Dirk Attard, Damien Attard and David Varju. Made up of athletes from Crossfit F15 and Training Room, they too finished in 2nd place in the Rx Teams Male out of 30 other teams.

Other Maltese teams and athletes from Crossfit356, CrossFit F15 and Crossfit Martell also participated in the event to represent and make the country proud. 

Wodcelona is considered the most inclusive International CrossFit competition in Europe, – a non-profit event that supports social action with groups at risk of social exclusion.

Wodcelona is ‘the competition where the entire community of athletes participates on equal terms because it has 16 categories according to age, level, modality (team or individual), among which 7 are adaptive,’ whilst positioning Barcelona as the European capital of Inclusive CrossFit.
