Zelensky visits US President Joe Biden as war rages on

Zelensky visits US President Joe Biden as war rages on
Dec 22 2022 Share

Ukraine was invaded approximately three hundred days ago by neighbour Russia, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky headed to Washington DC to meet US President Joe Biden.

The talk saw both leaders making clear that they see the war entering a new phase as Russia sends more troops to the frontlines and waging a brutal air campaign against civilian targets.

Fears of a stalemate are growing, but no indication that a pathway to ending the conflict has not yet been made clear. Delivering an address in English, Zelensky highlighted how Ukraine will be celebrating Christmas using candle-light due to Russia cutting off power supplies.

Zelensky addressed Congress as Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Kamala Harris held up a Ukrainian national flag signed by Ukrainian soldiers at the Capitol in Washington on Wednesday, December 21st.

Biden also went on to promise an aid package of $45 billion and that the USA will continue to back the worn-torn country for as long as the war persists.
