Father Coaches Alongside Son in Melita F.C. Match Versus Palermo

Aug 25 2023 Share

On Thursday evening, Malta’s very own Melita F.C. took on Serie B side Palermo in an intense pre-season friendly, but a truly interesting takeaway from the match-up is the fact that the Maltese-side was coached by father-son duo Clive & Matthew Mizzi.

In an important occasion for Melita F.C., the local side headed to Stadio Renzo Barbera in Palermo for an international friendly against the Rosaneri.

Calling the opportunity “a dream came true”, coach Clive Mizzi shared a photo of himself alongside son Matthew Mizzi as they watched along Melita’s performance, paired with an old photo, presumably from years ago when Matthew started his footballing journey.

The game ultimately came to a close with a score of 5-1 in favour of Palermo, with the friendly serving as a great opportunity of exposure for the coaches and the team.

“I’ve been made aware that all of those people on the balcony up there… none of them have paid for their tickets”, Williams stated before making way to a chorus of boos.

Jokingly playing along with the high-altitude spectators, Robbie invited the crowd to tell them to “buy their own f*cking tickets” before shining a light on the fact that the building is actually a Catholic institution.

“You’re watching me, but Jesus is watching you”, Robbie told the spectators before reeling it back and telling them to enjoy the show! All in good fun, the British pop icon continued his spectacular concert as tens of thousands sung along to the artist’s greatest hits.

Did you attend the concert?

At this point, saying Thursday evening’s Robbie Williams concert was a jam-packed show simply goes without saying, but the show was also a celebration of all things Maltese.

From a heart-warming interaction with Maltese superfan Priscilla to telling the crowd on the Catholic Institution’s roof that “Jesus is watching them”, Robbie celebrated Malta as Robbie knows how but a truly emotional moment for the island came when he was gifted the Maltese national team kit and lifted it up in the air as he sang ‘Angels’.

In a video sent to Malta Daily, local fan Mandy Galea shared some up close and personal footage of her throwing the shirt to Robbie before telling him “Open it Rob!”

A typically Maltese moment and heart-warming one at that, yesterday’s concert was definitely one to remember.
