Żibel Malta Leads Community Coastal Clean-Up in Marsaskala

Volunteers came together for the latest environmental clean-up in Marsaskala, organised by Żibel Malta, to help tackle litter along the coastline. The initiative brought the local community together with a shared goal of protecting Malta’s marine and coastal environment.

Participants were able to contribute in a variety of ways. On land, volunteers collected rubbish along the shoreline or helped at the clean-up base by sorting the debris into categories, which were then weighed to track the types of polluting materials. In the sea, a group of volunteers snorkelled or dived to recover marine debris, helping to remove waste from beneath the water’s surface. Those wishing to snorkel were encouraged to bring their own equipment.

The clean-up in Marsaskala is part of a series of efforts by Żibel Malta to promote environmental awareness and preserve local coastlines. The organisation has announced that the next clean-up is scheduled for 7 March, inviting anyone interested in volunteering to join and make a difference. Full details, including the registration link, will be published closer to the date, and volunteers are encouraged to reach out to Żibel with any questions.

These initiatives highlight the crucial role of community involvement in keeping Malta’s natural areas clean and protecting its marine ecosystems.
