Żibel Collected Over 200K KG Of Marine Debris Since 2017

Environmental NGO Żibel has reached an impressive milestone, having collected over 200,000 kilograms of marine debris and land litter since its founding in 2017.
The achievement was marked during a clean-up held at Xemxija Bay last Saturday, where volunteers continued their ongoing efforts to restore Malta’s coastal and marine environments.
The 200-tonne total includes waste removed from both land and sea, reflecting Żibel’s sustained commitment to tackling pollution and promoting environmental awareness.
Since its inception, Żibel has organised hundreds of clean-ups across the Maltese Islands, often in collaboration with local authorities, businesses, and community groups.
The organisation focuses on removing plastic waste, fishing gear, metal objects, and other pollutants that threaten marine ecosystems and coastal habitats.
Żibel’s team expressed gratitude to all volunteers, supporters, and partners who have contributed to the initiative over the years.
“Reaching the 200,000-kilo mark is a proud moment for us, but it also reminds us how much more there is to do to protect our seas and natural spaces,” said the team in a statement.
