Żejtun Parish Church Dome Restoration Funding Announced

The Parish of St Catherine in Żejtun will benefit from substantial government funding for necessary restoration works on the church dome.
Owen Bonnici and Byron Camilleri, together with Archpriest Anton Galea-Scannura, announced that financial support will be provided to carry out the required repairs and restoration.
The works will be carried out through Komunità Malta and Arts Council Malta. It was emphasised that all regulations related to the protection of cultural heritage will be observed throughout the project.
Minister Bonnici stated that the parish church in Żejtun is unique, both in its scale and in its historical and cultural significance. He explained that this restoration forms part of a wider programme of investment in churches and chapels across Malta, aimed at preserving the country’s religious and architectural heritage for future generations.
Minister Camilleri said the project will not only safeguard the church’s historical and religious value but also benefit the local community. He noted that the restoration will help ensure the site remains safe and accessible while strengthening the sense of identity within the Żejtun community.
Archpriest Galea-Scannura welcomed the investment and thanked the authorities for their continued support. The Mayor of Żejtun, Joan Agius, was also present.
