Żabbar Beer Fest To Return This Weekend

The Żabbar Beer Fest is set to return to the Żabbar Ditch, located next to Bieb is-Sultan, on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 July, once again transforming the historic site into a vibrant entertainment venue for two evenings of music, culture and community celebration.
The festival was officially announced by Minister for Local Government and Public Works Alison Zerafa Civelli alongside Mario Aquilina, President of the Maria Mater Gratiae Philharmonic Society of Żabbar.
This year’s edition places particular emphasis on sustainability and the revitalisation of public spaces.
Through a collaboration between the Maria Mater Gratiae Philharmonic Society and the Cleansing and Maintenance Division, the Notre Dame Ditch, previously a neglected area, has been thoroughly cleaned and prepared to host the event.
The project has restored the site into an open and welcoming space, offering a distinctive setting for festival visitors.
Minister Zerafa Civelli highlighted how the initiative reflects the impact of cooperation between Government entities, local councils and voluntary organisations.
She said such collaboration can breathe new life into public spaces, turning them into safe, clean and accessible venues for cultural and social activities.
She also noted that the work of the Cleansing and Maintenance Division goes beyond routine upkeep, contributing to improved quality of life in local communities.
Mario Aquilina said this year’s festival will be the biggest yet, supported by Government backing and assistance from the Malta Arts Council.
The musical programme will open on Friday with internationally renowned German DJ ATB, who will headline the night with a selection of his most popular tracks.
Saturday will focus on rock music, featuring the acclaimed U2 tribute band Achtung Babies, performing in Malta for the first time.
The event will also include performances by Maltese artists and DJs such as Tenishia, Clay C, Ziggy, Memphis Mac, Pierre Cordina, Cathy K and Sussu. Visitors will be able to enjoy interactive activities and a dedicated children’s area.
Reusable cups will also be introduced as part of the festival’s sustainability measures.
The festival will be held in aid of Puttinu Cares, with activities starting at 7.00pm on both evenings and free admission for all.
