A young person required emergency medical assistance after suffering heatstroke and losing consciousness as soaring temperatures continue to affect Malta.

The incident was revealed by the Malta Red Cross, which said its teams have responded to multiple heat-related emergencies in recent days across beaches, public spaces and private homes.

According to the organisation, today's incident involved a young person who suffered heatstroke before collapsing and requiring urgent medical attention.

The Malta Red Cross is urging the public not to underestimate the ongoing heatwave and to take simple precautions to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Among its recommendations are staying well hydrated by drinking plenty of water, wearing light and breathable clothing, using a hat when outdoors, and remaining in the shade whenever possible. The organisation also advises avoiding strenuous physical activity between 11am and 4pm, when temperatures are at their highest.

The Red Cross stressed the importance of keeping a close eye on children, older adults and other vulnerable individuals, who are particularly at risk during periods of extreme heat.

It also reminded the public to call 112 immediately if someone becomes confused, dizzy, collapses or loses consciousness, warning that prompt medical intervention can be lifesaving.

With high temperatures expected to persist, the Malta Red Cross is encouraging everyone to take extra care and follow heat safety advice to help prevent further emergencies.
