Young Maltese Author Beppe Caruana Publishes His Sixth Book

As part of International Book Week, young Maltese author Beppe Caruana is celebrating the publication of his latest children’s book, Toninu Jitgħallem Jgħum.
At just fourteen years old, Beppe has already established himself as a dedicated and prolific writer. This new release marks his sixth publication and the second instalment in the Toninu series.
Written in Maltese, Toninu Jitgħallem Jgħum tells the story of a young boy learning an important life skill. Through Toninu’s experience of learning to swim, readers are guided through themes of perseverance, patience and self confidence.
The story highlights how challenges can be overcome with the right encouragement and determination, offering a positive and reassuring message for children who may be facing similar milestones in their own lives.
Beppe, who is autistic, drew inspiration for the book from a deeply personal place. He wrote it in memory of autistic children who have tragically lost their lives in water related accidents.
Through this publication, he aims to raise awareness about water safety while also promoting confidence and resilience among young readers.
The book is illustrated by Luke Briffa, whose warm and engaging artwork brings Toninu’s journey to life. Published by Horizons with the support of the National Literacy Agency, the book will be available in public libraries and from the Horizons website.
