Children from across Malta and Gozo are using their creativity to highlight the importance of sustainability through the Young Artists, Big Impact Children’s Art Exhibition, currently being held at MUŻA, the National Community Art Museum.

The exhibition, organised by the Sustainable Development Directorate within the Ministry for Energy, the Environment and the Regeneration of the Grand Harbour, gives young people the opportunity to share their views on the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through different forms of artistic expression, including paintings, literature, sculptures and videography.

Minister for Energy, the Environment and the Regeneration of the Grand Harbour Miriam Dalli visited the exhibition and praised the students for their creativity and awareness of the challenges facing the environment and society.

She said the artworks demonstrate that children already have a strong understanding of sustainability, from protecting natural resources to improving the wellbeing of communities and safeguarding future generations.

Following the success of its first edition, this year’s exhibition has grown to include students from Years 4 to 8. A total of 155 submissions were received from 18 schools across Malta and Gozo, with each piece reflecting the students’ interpretation of sustainable development and the role individuals can play in creating positive change.

Sustainable Development Director Francine Pace Caruana said the initiative is based on the idea of collective responsibility, recognising children as important agents of change who can inspire others through their ideas and creativity.

The exhibition will remain open at MUŻA until Sunday, 19 July, inviting families, educators and the public to experience the young artists’ messages for a more sustainable future.
