Yesterday afternoon, activists gathered in front of Parliament to protest Malta’s participation in the Eurovision due to Israel being allowed to compete.

The protest was titled “Malta: No Music for Genocide”, organised by Moviment Graffiti.

The demonstration began at 3pm from Parliament and ended in front of the Culture Ministry in Valletta, where numerous speakers took the stage to share the cause.

Speaking ahead of the protest, Moviment Graffiti leader Andre Callus said Malta has an opportunity to act. He argued that Israel uses Eurovision as a platform to divert attention from what he described as genocide in Gaza.

The group maintains that cultural events are not politically neutral, pointing out that Russia was barred from Eurovision following its invasion of Ukraine.

They argue that allowing Israel to compete despite ongoing developments in Gaza and the wider region creates what they describe as a double standard.

Protestors are urging Maltese authorities to reconsider their position and take what they call a principled stand on the issue.
