Yesterday, a march took place in the streets of Valletta for International Women’s Day, organised by Moviment Graffiti.

‘Maltese society, in the reflection of global trends, is experiencing a rise in conservatism and fascistic beliefs. This has brought about a dangerous resurgence in misogyny and male supremacy as an extension of traditionalist and conservative ideologies’, wrote Moviment Graffitti ahead of the protest.

‘We must remember our sisters in Malta and across the world who are forgotten and failed, and let the anger embolden us. Our sisters who fell victim to femicide, domestic abuse, sexual violence, workplace misogyny or forced pregnancy and many other gender-based injustices.’

The protest was a success, with many starting at the meeting point near the Triton Fountain and heading all the way to St George’s Square.

During the protest, a young man reportedly tried to snatch the main banner and did a nazi salute, leading to anti fascist chants filling the streets.
