Xjenza Malta Joins European Partnership For Brain Health With €3.5M Investment

Xjenza Malta has officially joined the European Partnership for Brain Health, a Europe wide initiative designed to strengthen brain health through coordinated research, innovation and cross border collaboration.
Through this partnership, Malta gains access to shared expertise, funding opportunities and evidence based strategies for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of brain related disorders, benefiting citizens across all age groups.
The launch event brought together policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers and representatives from civil society, marking an important milestone for Malta’s mental health and neuroscience agenda.

The initiative places Malta within a wider European framework that promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing to address some of the most pressing challenges related to brain health.
Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti highlighted the social importance of the partnership, stating that mental health affects everyone at different stages of life. He noted that Malta’s participation ensures access to shared knowledge and proven approaches, helping to improve overall wellbeing through cooperation beyond national borders.
Dr Lydia Abela also addressed the event, stressing the need for greater awareness, education and empathy within society. She emphasised the importance of reaching younger generations and those most vulnerable to the pressures of modern life, particularly children.
Xjenza Malta Chief Executive Officer Silvio Scerri described the partnership as a key step forward for Malta’s research and innovation ecosystem. He said it ensures that scientific progress is translated into meaningful improvements for public health.
The event included a panel discussion with experts from neurological care, ADHD and dementia fields, followed by a presentation explaining how Maltese researchers can benefit from the €3.5 million government investment supporting this initiative.
