Wreath Laying Ceremony Held At Valletta’s Great Siege Monument

A wreath laying ceremony by Prime Minister Robert Abela, Speaker of the House of Representatives Carmelo Abela, Opposition Representative Alex Perici Calascione and other distinguished guests, and representatives of constitutional bodies was held yesterday evening in Valletta.
Wreaths were laid at the Great Siege Monument in Valletta in honour of Victory Day, being celebrated today, September 8th.
Victory Day is celebrated in honour of three historical sieges Malta experienced: the Great Siege of Malta in 1565, the Siege of Valletta by the French blockade in 1800, and the Siege of Malta during the Second World War by the Axis which ended in 1943.
It also coincides with the commemoration of the birth of the Virgin Mary, with the traditional regatta held in the Grand Harbour.
