Works Commence On Pjazza tal-Ħniena In Qrendi

In Qrendi, the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia, visited works underway at Pjazza tal-Ħniena as part of a regeneration project.
Pjazza tal-Ħniena is of significant importance to the residents of Qrendi and neighbouring localities. In addition to housing the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy, a beautiful, highly visited sanctuary popular with tourists, the square is widely used for events organised by both the Local Council and various Qrendi organisations, particularly during the village’s two annual feasts.
The project is currently in its first phase, with infrastructural works now underway. These works include replacing and upgrading utility services, with new drainage and water systems installed. Work on the lighting infrastructure will also continue during this phase. The infrastructural works are expected to take approximately one month, after which concrete surfacing works will begin and are scheduled to be completed by June. This will then be followed by the paving of the square, ultimately giving it the appearance and quality it deserves.
Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia stated, “A few weeks ago, we announced this regeneration project around the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy here in Qrendi. Works commenced this week on the long-awaited project aimed at giving this square a more beautiful and significantly improved appearance, a place that is very dear to the people of Qrendi.”
Meanwhile, Qrendi Mayor David Schembri explained that the initial phase of works on the square is underway. He thanked the Parliamentary Secretariat for Public Works for the work being carried out in favour of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy in Qrendi.
