Minister for Local Government and Public Works Alison Zerafa Civelli has visited the ongoing restoration and infrastructure works at Għar Lapsi, following the extensive damage caused by Storm Harry during the past winter.

The project includes the installation of concrete blocks and the pouring of concrete to create a new access ramp for swimmers and visitors.

The works are designed to strengthen the area's infrastructure, improve accessibility and enhance safety at one of Malta's most popular coastal destinations.

During her visit, Minister Zerafa Civelli emphasised the Government's commitment to ensuring that Għar Lapsi can once again be enjoyed by the public in a safe, organised and sustainable manner.

She noted that safety remains the primary consideration in all interventions being undertaken, particularly in a location that attracts significant numbers of visitors and tourists throughout the year.

Architect Mario Ellul explained that the project is focused on three key areas: the existing steps, the access ramp leading to the bay and the consolidation of rock formations within the area.

He said that the coastline suffered considerable erosion as a result of Storm Harry and that works on the ramp have already reached an advanced stage.

In parallel, detailed studies are being carried out to identify and address risks associated with unstable rock formations around the bay. Access to Għar Lapsi will remain restricted while works continue, with public safety remaining the overriding priority throughout the project.
