Works At Fond Għadir In Tas-Sliema Near Completion

Works on the wall at Fond Għadir are now in their final phase, with the project set to give the wall along the Tas-Sliema coastline a more complete appearance, while further strengthening the promenade and better protecting it from heavy seas.

The intervention, carried out by the Public Works Department, followed concerns over unstable rock protruding from the coastline, as well as another wall that was in a severely deteriorated condition. These works addressed the danger to the public, while reinforcing the promenade to provide greater protection against wave-induced erosion.

This was announced during a visit to Fond Għadir by Minister for Local Government and Public Works Alison Zerafa Civelli, together with Director General of the Works Division within the Public Works Department, Architect Stephen Bonello, and Tas-Sliema Mayor John Pillow. During the visit, the work carried out so far and the remaining works required to complete the project were discussed.

Minister Alison Zerafa Civelli said the intervention is another example of ongoing efforts to make public infrastructure safer, more resilient and better suited to the needs of communities.

“We are continuing to invest in infrastructure that provides greater safety and peace of mind to the public, while protecting and strengthening public spaces used daily by families and residents,” the Minister said.

The Minister stressed that the Government will continue to prioritise the maintenance and strengthening of infrastructure across Malta and Gozo, through ongoing work to ensure that important public spaces remain safe and continue to provide communities with a quality environment.

Director General of the Works Division, Architect Stephen Bonello, explained that the intervention involved preparatory and structural works, including the preparation of foundations for the construction of the wall, aimed at strengthening the stability of the infrastructure along this part of the coastline.

Architect Mark Camilleri said the project is now in its final implementation phase, with the contractor carrying out the final finishing works before the project is completed.

Tas-Sliema Mayor John Pillow thanked the Ministry and the Public Works Department for the work carried out in the area, while highlighting the importance of interventions that continue to improve the safety and quality of public spaces for the community.
