Work has begun at the De La Salle College campus on an ambitious project that integrates education with the natural environment, creating open, sustainable, and innovative learning spaces for students and the wider community.

The initiative, announced during a site visit by Minister for the Environment and Energy Miriam Dalli alongside Project Green and the college leadership, aims to transform the campus into a nature-based learning hub.

Minister Dalli described the project as a “dream becoming reality,” highlighting that classrooms will be fully integrated within ecological gardens, providing an immersive educational experience while serving as a potential model for other schools.

Project Manager David Ellul explained that current works include demolishing abandoned structures and constructing new classrooms using recycled stone from the site. These classrooms will be surrounded by an ecological garden designed with sustainability and recycling at its core.

Stephen Cachia, the school’s director, emphasised that the classrooms will not only serve the school’s students but will also be available to other schools, allowing lessons to extend beyond traditional indoor spaces. Students will be able to engage directly with nature, fostering experiential learning and strengthening their connection with the environment.

This innovative approach combines education, sustainability, and community engagement, creating a forward-thinking model for how schools can incorporate natural spaces into daily learning.
