“Women Are Unstoppable When We Rise Together”, Roberta Metsola

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola held a discussion in honour of the upcoming International Women’s Day yesterday, and was joined by various local women and activists.

Held alongside Claire A. Ordway, Melanie Kelly and Trudy Kerr, Metsola held a space for all the women to share their stories and perspectives.

“We need more women in politics. We need their leadership and powerful voices,” she said. Metsola encouraged women to support each other and to share their stories so that others feel confident to step forward.

Metsola said that when women succeed they help create economic growth, strengthen communities and inspire younger generations. She stressed that future women leaders need role models and encouragement.

She also mentioned the European Parliament’s Women on Boards Directive. Since it was adopted, the number of women appointed to board roles has increased from 35 per cent to 43 per cent overall.
