Woman And Man Arrested For International Online Fraud Scheme

An extensive online fraud investigation, carried out by the Malta Police Financial Crime Investigations Department, led to the arrest of an 82 year old man and a 25 year old woman on the 2nd of February 2026.

The woman is suspected of being the principal actor in an online fraud scheme, through which she has allegedly been impersonating a local bank.

The police have managed to identify around 200 victims to date, who collectively suffered losses amounting to €1 million.

Police managed to link the woman to an international criminal network with links to the United Kingdom and Ireland.

In coordination with Europol and the Irish and UK authorities, a simultaneous operation was carried out on the 2nd of February.

During the operation, the Malta Police Force seized €8,000 in cash from a residence in Paola, with another search in Qrendi resulting in the seizure of several mobile phones and electronic devices.

More phones and devices were seized in searches conducted by the Irish Garda. Investigations are ongoing.
