Wipes Clump & Block Sewage In Mdina Road, Qormi

Taking to social media, Water Services Corporation shared images from the aftermath of a sewage blockage on Mdina Road, Qormi.
The blockage was caused by wipes thrown into the sewage network. ‘What seems like a small, harmless act, flossing a wipe down the toilet, turns into a massive problem for everyone.’
Wipes don’t break down like toilet paper, WSC explained. ‘They tangle, clump, and create blockages.’
‘Blockages lead to sewage overflows, affecting roads, homes, and public health.’
Teams from WSC spent hours learning these preventable issues, despite these being hours and resources that could be used elsewhere.
‘Local communities face disruption, unpleasant odours, and potential health risks. The fix is simple: Bin it, don’t flush it. Wipes, whether labeled “flushable” or not belong in the bin, not in your pipes. Protect your home, your neighbourhood, and our sewage network.’
