An Orange Weather Warning has been issued as strong to very strong winds are set to impact the Maltese Islands over the Palm Sunday weekend, prompting authorities to urge the public to exercise extreme caution.

According to Civil Protection Malta, a West Northwest wind will intensify throughout the day, with conditions expected to remain hazardous until at least 10:00hrs. The warning may be extended depending on how the situation develops.

Residents are being advised to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety. These include avoiding work at heights such as rooftops, balconies, scaffolding, and other exposed structures, as strong gusts could pose serious risks. Authorities are also warning against visiting coastal areas, including shorelines and breakwaters, due to rough seas and potentially dangerous waves.

In addition, the public is encouraged to secure any loose outdoor items that could be displaced by the wind, and to exercise caution while driving, particularly in open or elevated areas where sudden crosswinds may occur.

Meanwhile, the Malta Meteorological Office has forecast a windy and partly cloudy weekend, with temperatures expected to reach highs of around 16°C.

The public is strongly urged to stay informed by following official updates and to adhere to all safety instructions as weather conditions continue to evolve.
