Why Your 20’s Can Feel Like Everyone Is Moving At A Different Speed

With October here, summer has come to an end and many people are settling back into their routines. University students are returning to campus, workplaces are back in full swing and winter schedules are beginning to take shape.

For many people in their 20s, however, this time of year can also highlight just how differently life unfolds for everyone.

Freshers' Week is a reminder of this. While thousands of students are starting their first year at university or MCAST, others of the same age are already working full-time, building careers, launching businesses, moving abroad or even planning weddings.

Unlike school, where most people move through the same milestones together, adulthood comes without a shared timeline. Once your 20s begin, everyone's path starts to look different.

October often makes these differences feel more noticeable. As holidays end and routines return, many people naturally reflect on where they are in life and compare themselves with those around them.

Social media can make that even harder. Feeds are filled with graduation photos, new jobs, holidays and major life updates, making it easy to feel like everyone else is moving ahead faster.

In reality, there is no single path through your 20s. Starting university later, living at home for longer or changing career direction does not mean someone has fallen behind.

Whether you're beginning Freshers' Week, returning to lectures, heading back to work or still deciding what comes next, it's worth remembering that life is not a race.

Everyone reaches milestones at different times, and there is no deadline for having everything figured out.
