When Is The Right Time To Put Up Your Christmas Decorations?

With Christmas just 66 days away, festive decorations are already making an appearance across Malta. But is there actually a traditional date when we're supposed to put up our Christmas trees?

While there's no official rule, several traditions suggest that Christmas decorations should go up much later than October.
Traditionally, the festive season begins with Advent, a period of preparation leading up to Christmas. This year, the first Sunday of Advent falls on 29th November, making it a popular time to start decorating.
Another significant date is 8th December, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a public holiday in Malta. Some Maltese families traditionally choose this date to put up their Christmas trees and decorations.
Others prefer to wait until 1st December, while some European traditions historically involved decorating Christmas trees as late as Christmas Eve.
However, times are clearly changing.
Christmas shops and festive displays have been popping up around Malta since September, with some people embracing the Christmas spirit months before the big day.
Interestingly, a recent Malta Daily Instagram poll revealed that 63% of our followers believe October is too early for Christmas decorations, while 37% think it's perfectly acceptable.
Whether you're already playing Mariah Carey on repeat or refusing to acknowledge Christmas until December, one thing is certain: everyone seems to have their own idea of when the festive season should begin.
So, when do you usually put up your Christmas decorations?
