Weekend Weather: Sunshine Returns... And So Does The Heat!

After a cloudier-than-usual week for this time of year, the first weekend of August is shaping up to be hot, sunny, and perfect for the beach.
The Malta MET Office is expecting temperatures to reach 33–34°C from Friday, and they’re set to remain at these levels well into next week. That's around 2°C above the average for this time of year, while the "feels like" temperature could be as high as 36°C. Nights will also stay warm, with temperatures only dropping to 26–27°C.
These warm conditions are being driven by a high-pressure system over the Central Mediterranean, bringing stable skies, light winds, and plenty of sunshine across the Maltese Islands.
Although it will be very warm, this is not currently expected to qualify as a heatwave, as temperatures are not forecast to stay at least 5°C above the seasonal maximum average for three consecutive days.
And some more good news for those heading to the beach this weekend: the sea temperature is currently around 28°C, making it warmer than is typical for this time of year. Combined with light north to northwesterly winds and calm sea conditions, it's set to be an ideal weekend for a swim.
UV levels will remain very high, so if you're planning to spend time outdoors, remember to stay hydrated, seek shade during the hottest part of the day, and wear sunscreen.
