Weather Warning Issued As Temperatures Hit 35°C: What You Should Avoid During The Heat

A weather warning has been issued as Malta braces for several days of intense heat, with daily maximum temperatures expected to reach 34°C to 35°C until at least Tuesday, 30th June.
While many will be making the most of the long Feast of St Peter and St Paul (L-Imnarja) weekend, the soaring temperatures also bring an increased risk of heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Health authorities recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, particularly between 11am and 4pm, when UV levels are at their highest. If you're spending the day outdoors, take regular breaks in the shade and drink water frequently, even if you don't feel thirsty.
Strenuous exercise, running or outdoor sports should ideally be postponed until the early morning or evening, when temperatures are lower.
Alcohol and excessive caffeine can also contribute to dehydration, so they should be consumed in moderation alongside plenty of water.
Drivers are reminded never to leave children, elderly people or pets inside parked vehicles, even for a few minutes, as temperatures inside cars can become dangerously high in a very short time.
Those who are elderly, pregnant, have chronic medical conditions or care for young children should take extra precautions and remain in cool, well-ventilated environments wherever possible.
If you experience dizziness, headaches, nausea, excessive sweating or confusion, move to a cool place immediately, drink water and seek medical attention if symptoms persist.
With the heat expected to continue into next week, residents are encouraged to enjoy the summer responsibly while taking the necessary precautions to stay safe.
