Ħamrun Spartans have achieved what once seemed an impossible mission, becoming the first Maltese team ever to qualify for the group stage of a European competition after reaching the UEFA Conference League proper.

The breakthrough came early, when star forward Serigne Saliou Thioune opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a stunning first-time acrobatic finish.

RFS responded swiftly, levelling just five minutes later. A clumsy challenge in the box awarded the Latvian champions a penalty, which Stefan Panić calmly converted.

As the first half drew to a close, Ħamrun gradually regained control, weathering pressure from RFS and looking dangerous on the break through their lively wingers.

In a video shared by Ħamrun Spartans, club president Joseph Portelli can be seen smiling and celebrating this historic milestone for Maltese football alongside jubilant fans.

‘We made history,’ a supporter said, as President Portelli urged fans to celebrate responsibly and stay safe.
