“We Will Not Turn Back” - Minister for Equality & Civil Rights Rosianne Cutajar

Minister Rosianne Cutajar has emphasised that equality must be actively renewed every single day, describing it as an ongoing responsibility that extends into both the present and the future.
In a statement, the Minister for Equality and Civil Rights highlighted Malta’s continued commitment to fostering a society where every individual is treated with dignity, respect, and freedom, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Cutajar noted that the country has made significant progress in recent years, driven by a clear and sustained political commitment towards inclusivity and social justice. She underlined that these advances were not automatic, but the result of deliberate efforts to create a fairer and more equal society.
While acknowledging that differing views may exist on certain issues, the Minister stressed the importance of recognising initiatives that have provided visibility, dignity, and a voice to communities that were historically marginalised.
She warned that undermining such progress risks overlooking the lived realities of these individuals, as well as the collective journey that has shaped Malta’s current standing on equality and civil rights.
“As Minister for Equality and Civil Rights, I will continue to work with determination to ensure that Malta remains a country where no one feels inferior, discriminated against, or excluded,” she said.
Cutajar concluded by reaffirming her commitment to strengthening and safeguarding the progress achieved in equality and civil rights, insisting that these gains must be protected from any attempt to weaken them or reverse the advances made.
