“We Never Go Back On Our Word”, Says Prime Minister After Budget 2027

Prime Minister Robert Abela has described Budget 2027 as unique in Europe, arguing that it guarantees stability for Maltese families and businesses at a time when many countries are introducing austerity measures and higher taxes.
Speaking after the Budget presentation, Abela said Malta remains the only European country able to guarantee stable energy and fuel prices, providing certainty for households and businesses.
He added that the Budget safeguards the country's continued economic and social progress, while maintaining strong growth prospects for the years ahead.
The Prime Minister said the Budget is built on three priorities: stability, stronger support for families and long-term investment. Alongside stable energy prices, he highlighted measures including the €1,000 Super Bonus, increased support for parents of children with disabilities, higher pensions and new rights for widows and women.
Abela also pointed to investment in Artificial Intelligence, education reforms, public healthcare and Malta's energy infrastructure as key measures aimed at preparing the country for the future.
Among the Budget's economic measures, the Prime Minister highlighted what he described as the largest tax cut introduced by his Government, reducing corporate tax from 35% to 25% to encourage investment in technology and productivity. He also noted that Malta is expected to maintain a deficit of 2.6%, which he said remains among the lowest in Europe.
Abela said the Government is committed to reducing dependence on foreign workers by building a higher value, more productive economy. He stressed that continued investment in digital transformation, renewable energy and battery storage is essential to sustain the country's progress.
Concluding his address, Abela said the Government would continue creating wealth while ensuring it benefits the people, insisting that it would "never go back on its word" and pledging to remain alongside families and businesses under the slogan "Malta Miegħek".
