WATCH: Malta Welcomes 2026 Under a Sky of Fireworks

The Maltese skies came alive at midnight as a spectacular fireworks display illuminated the Grand Harbour, marking the arrival of 2026 in unforgettable fashion.
Thousands gathered along the harbour’s waterfront, city bastions, and surrounding viewpoints to witness one of the most impressive New Year’s Eve pyrotechnic shows ever staged in Malta.

Lasting an awe-inspiring 25 minutes, the fireworks painted the night sky with vibrant colours, reflections dancing across the calm harbour waters and historic fortifications. The display provided a breathtaking backdrop to Valletta’s celebrations, drawing crowds to every visible corner overlooking the harbour.
Earlier in the evening, the capital city itself had already been buzzing with energy. An estimated 70,000 people filled the streets of Valletta, with celebrations stretching from St George’s Square and Triton Square to the city’s main streets. Live performances by some of Malta’s most popular local artists created a festive atmosphere that brought together families, friends, and visitors alike, building anticipation as midnight approached.

As the countdown reached its final seconds, cheers echoed across Valletta before the harbour erupted in light, sound, and celebration. Many chose to watch from elevated vantage points, while others gathered along the waterfront, creating a shared moment that united the city and beyond.
The fireworks display crowned what became the largest New Year’s Eve celebration ever held in Valletta, bringing a successful close to a year of cultural events organised by the Valletta Cultural Agency. The Valletta National New Year’s Eve Celebration was organised by G7 Events, through a Cultural Partnership Agreement with the Valletta Cultural Agency within the Ministry for Culture, Lands and Local Government, and supported by the Malta Tourism Authority.
