A rescue operation carried out at a construction site during Storm Harry has captured national attention, after Dr Jonathan Joslin, a leading consultant at the Emergency Department at Mater Dei Hospital, shared a powerful message on social media highlighting the importance of teamwork in saving lives.

The video shows emergency responders working under dangerous conditions as severe weather battered the islands in the alst couple of days, underlining the real risks faced by frontline workers during the storm.

During a special Cabinet meeting attended by heads of multiple directorates, Prime Minister Robert Abela confirmed that no deaths or fatalities were recorded as a result of Storm Harry, a result he described as a testament to public cooperation and the dedication of essential workers.

The Prime Minister thanked the public for following government-issued safety guidelines, while also praising public service workers who remained on duty throughout the storm to ensure Malta’s safety. He announced that the Government will be granting a special allowance to members of the disciplinary forces who worked through Storm Harry.

“The dedication of our workers deserves recognition,” Prime Minister Abela stated, expressing gratitude to all those who helped minimise danger and damage. He acknowledged everyone involved, from those who risked their lives and health during the storm, to workers who immediately began cleaning streets once conditions improved.

Further details on the allowance and related measures will be announced in the coming days.

Authorities had earlier ordered construction sites to suspend outdoor activities and secure loose materials as severe winds hit Malta. Enforcement and workplace safety inspections continued despite the extreme weather, as officials stress that preparedness and compliance were key in preventing tragedy.
