It’s August, which means one particular locality in Malta is marking its village feast with one of the most iconic traditions on the island.
Birżebbuġa marks St Peter in Chains in August, and this sees the statue of the saint being mounted on a boat as a pilgrimage from St George’s Bay makes its way to pretty Bay.
Whereas some follow along from land, many others join the pilgrimage with their own boats.
The statue will then make its way to the village square for the more traditional marċi and celebrations, with enthusiasts donning green in honour of the saint.
