The Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works has announced the completion of works on Triq il-Gudja, the road connecting Ħal Luqa and Gudja, as part of the government’s Vjal Kulħadd initiative.

The extensive regeneration and modernisation project has completely redesigned the road, with a strong focus on safer, more sustainable, and accessible mobility for all road users.

For the first time, the route now features a segregated lane dedicated to cyclists and pedestrians, creating a safer and more convenient connection between the two localities. The road also includes two traffic lanes, one in each direction, aimed at improving vehicle accessibility and connectivity between Luqa and Gudja.

As part of the environmental aspect of the project, a number of new trees and shrubs were planted along the entire route, enhancing the area’s appearance while contributing to a greener and more sustainable environment.

Speaking on the project, Transport Minister Chris Bonett said the development forms part of the government’s wider Malta in Motion plan, which seeks to encourage alternative modes of transport such as walking and cycling while improving quality of life for communities across Malta and Gozo.

Gudja Mayor Romeo Baldacchino noted that the project will eventually connect to other roads in Gudja being developed under the same concept, adding that residents are already walking more frequently in the area due to improved safety.

Ħal Luqa Mayor John Schembri welcomed the project’s completion, describing it as a long-awaited investment that will benefit residents of both localities and provide a better environment for everyone using the route.
