Virtual Reality Technology Expands To Elderly Care Centres In Malta

In July 2025, Active Ageing and Community Care within the Parliamentary Secretariat for Active Ageing launched a pilot project introducing virtual reality technology to residents in elderly care homes.

The initiative proved highly successful and, following further investment, has now been expanded to all 36 Active Ageing Centres in Malta, allowing more older persons to benefit from this innovative experience.
During a visit to the Active Ageing Centre in Ħal Qormi, the Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, praised the expansion of services and underlined the importance of technology in supporting active ageing.
He stated that technology will play a key role in improving the quality of life of elderly people. This initiative continues to strengthen modern, community-based services, with further projects planned to enhance support and innovation for older persons.
