Vincent Marmara Rejects Allegations Over Pre-Yorgen Fenech Trial Survey

Statistician Vincent Marmarà has strongly denied allegations concerning an opinion survey carried out before the trial of Yorgen Fenech, insisting the claims made against him are "false" and defending both the methodology and integrity of his work.

In a statement, Marmarà said he would not allow what he described as incorrect claims to go unanswered. He rejected allegations that the survey had targeted people listed as prospective jurors for 2026, stating: "This is FALSE."

He argued that, had this been the case, the relevant authorities would have taken action, adding that the matter had been verified by the appropriate authorities.

Marmarà explained that the telephone numbers used in the survey were produced using a random number generator that created random eight digit numbers.

He said the process did not target any particular section of the Maltese population and noted that many of the generated numbers did not correspond to existing telephone numbers.

He also stressed that participation was entirely voluntary and that his research is never designed in a way that could identify individuals, with all findings presented only in aggregated form.

He also denied claims that he used the name of another company or individual to mislead people contacted during the survey.

"This is FALSE because I have never used the names of other individuals or other companies," he said, adding that research relating to criminal proceedings is carried out internationally and is considered standard practice.

Marmarà said he had already provided the authorities with all requested information several months ago but was unable to comment further because the matter is subject to a court confidentiality order.

Meanwhile, Momentum leader Arnold Cassola called on the University of Malta to investigate Marmarà's conduct, alleging unethical behaviour in connection with the polling exercise.
