Roberta Metsola Welcomes Victoria’s European Capital of Culture 2031 Title

Victoria will be the European Capital of Culture in 2031, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has announced.

In a statement celebrating the news, Metsola described the designation as “good news” for the Rabat community and the whole of Gozo.

She said the title would mean more than a year of celebrations, highlighting opportunities for young people in Gozo and Malta, greater space for artists and Gozitan culture, increased investment and greater visibility for Gozo across Europe and internationally.

Metsola said the designation demonstrated the impact of Europe on local communities, creating new opportunities, bringing people together and supporting ideas that can make a difference.

She congratulated Victoria Mayor Brian Azzopardi, Victoria31Għawdex Foundation chairperson Samuel Azzopardi and everyone involved in making the bid a reality.

The announcement marks a significant milestone for Victoria and Gozo as preparations begin for 2031.
