Victoria To Be Awarded Title Of European Capital Of Culture 2031

Victoria, Gozo will be receiving the title of European Capital of Culture 2031, marking an honourable moment for Maltese and, especially, Gozitans.

The European Capital of Culture action is an initiative of the European Union that aims at ‘highlighting this richness and diversity as well as common cultural aspects in Europe with a view to contributing to bring the peoples of Europe closer together and improve mutual understanding.’

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri issued a statement hailing the title, calling it a momentous occasion for Malta’s sister island.

Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg, who is also Gozitan, also issued a statement, saying that he is filled with pride following the decision.

‘Congratulations from the bottom of my heart to the entire team, the Rabat Gozo Local Council, the Gozo Regional Council and everyone who contributed to the candidacy for this title. Behind this effort are people who dedicated their time, talent and energy to our island’, said Borg.

‘Gozo has stories to tell, talent to share and a living culture that connects generations. This initiative is an opportunity for what makes us Gozitans to reach more people across Europe, while opening new doors for creativity and future generations.’
