Victim Support Malta Marks 20 Years Of Awareness With New Campaign
Local

Victim Support Malta has launched a new awareness campaign bringing together five well-known Maltese personalities to highlight the experiences of victims of crime and violence and encourage greater public understanding of their long-term needs.

The initiative, which marks the organisation's 20th anniversary, features singer Ira Losco, television personality Gianni, actress Clare Agius, broadcaster Keith Demicoli and actor Pawlu Borg Bonaci. Through a series of real stories, the campaign aims to give a voice to victims while highlighting the courage and resilience of those affected by crime and violence in Malta.

The campaign, titled "Violence Must Never Become Normal", comes amid recent incidents of violence that have once again drawn attention to their impact on individuals, families and communities.

Victim Support Malta said violence leaves lasting consequences that extend far beyond the initial incident. While public attention may eventually fade, victims can continue to experience grief, trauma, fear, disruption and a diminished sense of safety long after the headlines have disappeared.

The organisation said it stands with victims, their families and loved ones, witnesses and all those whose sense of security has been affected by violent events.

Reflecting on its two decades of work, Victim Support Malta said it has supported people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives, witnessing both the harm caused by violence and the determination of survivors as they rebuild their lives.

The organisation stressed that violence should never be normalised, excused or accepted as inevitable. It called for a continued commitment to listening to victims, protecting their dignity and rights, challenging attitudes that enable violence and ensuring that support remains available for as long as it is needed.

As part of the campaign, Victim Support Malta is encouraging anyone affected by crime or violence, either directly or through a family member or friend, to seek support.

Victim Support Malta provides professional services to help people navigate the emotional and practical consequences of victimisation.

The organisation said that although public attention eventually moves on from major incidents, society's responsibility to support victims should remain. It added that no one should have to face the aftermath of crime or violence alone.
